International Women’s day (IWD) 2011: Get to grips with activities at the CCAA
By Mireille GALABE NDIMOFOR
Women of the CCAA have taken part in a succession of activities to mark the 26th edition of the International Women’s Day.
A visit to the Centre d’Accueil des Enfants en Détresse (CAED), Round table discussions, a match past and a reception ceremony was on the menu of the Women of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority
The visit at the orphanage (CAED)
Imagine a new born baby abandoned at birth, imagine a child whose gender cannot be defined pending a medical operation, think of how distressed it feels to be lovelorn. These and more are some of the images the CCAA women captured during the visit at CAED.
But, there is hope because the ladies joined hands to put smiles on the faces of some 46 children living at the orphanage. Even though for some of the kids the moment of warmth in the hands of the women was far too brief, it was none the less worth the while.
Mrs. Fegue Félicité the lady in charge of the orphanage seemed lost for words as she expressed appreciation for the donation and the presence of the CCAA ladies.
The ladies, in giving basic consumer goods such as water, soap, Rice, Toothpaste, milk, sugar etc. are convinced that these products will be put to use judiciously by the staff of the orphanage for the benefit of the children.
The Round table discussions in 06 points
Animated by Mrs. MAIPA and Mrs. TASEGMO, here is a rundown of lessons learned.
1. IWD has not been instituted solely to celebrate but also to do a self analysis of Women and see what steps forward.
2. Women have an important role to play in guiding their children (daughters) from their young ages, it is important to guide them towards technical and scientific education because these courses could guarantee them a decent job.
3. The society contributes unwittingly to down play the esteem of young girl; women should do all in their power to defeat these vices in order to build confidence and esteem in the young Cameroonian girl.
4. Decent work can also be acquired by granting equal opportunities to the girl and the boy child. This requires the extermination of phenomena such as early marriages, prostitution, teenage pregnancy etc.
5. Men seem hostile to the term "equality". Women need to make them understand that equality means equal opportunity and not literal equality between the man and woman. Men and women have a complementary relationship.
6. Change takes time but it will come eventually. The results of demographic investigations of MINPROFF show that the Cameroonian woman has come a long way. CCAA women know that the state is working tirelessly for women in Cameroon to realize full potential. According to the two trainers of MINPROFF The situation of women at the CCAA is very encouraging since women make up more than 25% of staff. This situation they add is far from being the case in other institutions.
The march past and reception
Clad in their beautiful Kabas they won the admiration of on lookers. A reception ceremony later took place behind the 20th may Boulevard. With an excellent turn out, the occasion had as guest of honour, Mrs. Alice Tankam spouse of the current Director General.
