The Director General of the Aeronautical Authority, Ignatius SAMA JUMA, communicated this information to the press on May 5, 2008, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the drama.

During the night of 04th May 2007, the B737-800, registration 5Y-KYA, operating as flight KQA 507 from Abidjan international airport (Côte d'Ivoire), to Jomo Kenyatta airport Nairobi (Kenya), made a scheduled stop-over at the Douala international airport. The weather was stormy. Shortly after take off at about 1000 ft, the aircraft entered into a slow right roll that increased continuously and eventuelly ended up in a spiral dive.

The first meeting of the Working Party on Air Safety (ASWG) of the Coscap-Cemac / Sao Tome and Principe program was held on 16 and 17 April 2009 in Douala.
