The 2020 Edition of the Yamoussoukro Decision Day (YD)

Jointly organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC), the DY will be celebrated this Saturday, November 14, 2020 by its member states.

It will raise awareness on the opportunities and overall benefits associated with the liberalization of African air transport through the DY which came into force in 2000.

A 2-hour webinar, scheduled for November 13, 2020 on this occasion, will include discussions on important topics, including the implementation of the DY, the operationalization of its Executing Agency, the various elements of sustainable development of air transport. Also, an update will be given on the development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the full implementation of the provisions of the 1999 Yamoussoukro Decision.

This virtual meeting presents an opportunity to share experiences among Member States. A number of key stakeholders are invited to attend, including: the Chairperson of the African Union; the Regional Economic Communities (REC-AU); Ministries of Transport/Aviation and DGs of Civil Aviation Authorities; the ICAO Secretary General; the Secretary General of AFRAA; AASA and representatives of Member States' airlines; the Secretary General of ICA; Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) and Airport Service Providers; Regional Safety Oversight Organizations (RSOOs), IATA-Africa, CANSO-Africa; Various States and partner organizations; Aviation Professional Associations; Publishers of specialized aviation journals; Press and Media Organizations, etc.

It should be recalled that the Yamoussoukro Declaration is a treaty that allows for an "open skies" in terms of liberalizing access to the air transport market in the African content. The decision was approved by 44 members of the African Union (AU) in 1999 and became binding in 2002 for all its members including Cameroon.
