On Thursday, June 25, 2020, a dozen management staff of the CCAA Project Management Unit (PMU) took part in the first training session on Gender Based Violence (GBV) at the CCAA training centre in Yaounde.

The main objective of this sensitization session was to guarantee the protection of the people involved in the project, namely the staff, partners, and local residents who are beneficiaries of the project. On the other hand it also aimed at ensuring the protection of the environment from potential negative impacts during and after the implementation of development projects of Transport Sector Development Project-Air Component (TSDP-AC).

The staff was delivered presentations by a World Bank GBV expert on the prevention and management of gender-based violence cases, the code of conduct and the action plan for the implementation of Environmental, Social, Health and Safety (ESHS) standards in the framework of a development project. All this to ensure Occupational Health and Safety HST.

During the presentations, other aspects such as the typologies and manifestations of GBV, exploitation, sexual abuse, the consequences of GBV and the guiding principles of GBV case management were also discussed.

It is important to remember that any incident related to GBV should be reported within 72 hours in order to be treated according to the GBV guidelines which are; confidentiality, non-discrimination, respect and security/safety.

This awareness session on GBV will eventually allow staff to take more responsibility and work towards the respect of environmental and social standards. This, with a focus on gender-based violence (GBV) and child-based violence (GBV).

Following this sensitization of staff, the focus will be on sensitizing the partners of PDST-VA.

This training series is organized within the framework of the implementation of the Transport Sector Development Project - Air Component (TSDP-AC) through the PMU-CCAA.

It should be recalled that the TSDP-AC is a project financed by the World Bank up to 30 billion F CFA. This loan was received by the government of Cameroon to finance the implementation of this project by the secular arm of the State, the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA). The ultimate objective of the TSDP-AC is the development of airport infrastructures, the acquisition of security equipment, the reinforcement of staff capacities in order to increase the compliance rate of the security and safety system of our international airports in compliance with ICAO norms and standards.

At the moment, the worksites of TSDP-AC under execution are: the Yaoundé Nsimalen airport perimeter road, the construction and rehabilitation of safety and security fences in Douala and Yaoundé-Nsimalen international airports and the study for the identification of the basic socio-economic infrastructure needs of the populations to name a few.
