Airport Infrastructure Tour of the Bafoussam Airport

The Minister of State, Secretary General of the Presidency of the Republic and a strong delegation were at the airport on October 17, 2021 to get informed on the infrastructure dedicated to the CAN Total Energies 2021.

After a warm welcome by the governor of the western region, the strong delegation made up of, among others, the minister in charge of sports, former indomitable lions, various actors and officials of Cameroonian and foreign football, national and international media, followed the presentation made by the Director General of the Authority in the VIP room.

 She presented the functionalities of the airport, the follow-up of the recommendations of CAF and the Task Force of the Presidency of the Republic and the actions carried out by the CCAA within the framework of the upgrading of this airport infrastructure. With regard to the follow-up of the CAF recommendations, it was noted that access roads to the airport have been built, a vaccination room will soon be operational, lighting is in place, sanitary facilities have been renewed, 12 kilometres of fencing have been erected around the airport, walls have been cleaned and painted, fibre optics have been installed and runway strips have been refreshed. In terms of the recommendations made by the Task Force, the lighting and power plant have been completed.
In terms of bringing the airport up to standard, the CCAA has proceeded to stabilise the pothole and to acquire navigation aid equipment (DVOR/DME). And, for a few months, the quality management process initiated has led to the ISO 9001: 2015 certification of the services offered by this airport, meanwhile the security certification is underway.
It should be noted that this airport has been operational since 2016, and is capable of receiving on-demand and scheduled flights. For the moment, only the regular airline Camair-co serves this airport with 3 flights per week.

 
The airport also has a 2500 x45 metre runway (B 737) and DVOR-DME navigation equipment, lighting, a technical building, a 2x 165 KVA power station, CAT 6 fire engines, a weather station, etc. For passenger handling, there is a public concourse, a check-in hall, an immigration and security checkpoint, commercial areas, a boarding hall, a VIP lounge, a baggage reclaim area with carousel, offices for the airline, tourism, health, a restaurant and a car park.

It should be noted that this airport will have to accommodate flights carrying teams and delegations from Zimbabwe, Malawi, Senegal and Guinea whose pool will play in Bafoussam. 
The visit to the airport ended with a tour of the arrival and departure circuit, the power station and the lighting system. The Minister of State, Secretary General congratulated the Director General for the work done and expressed satisfaction with the infrastructure which he said could play the same role as other top class airports.
