The Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) is pursuing its commitment to operational excellence by intensively preparing for the renewal of its ISO 9001:2015 certifications. The first of three training sessions dedicated to process actors was held from 5 to 9 May 2025 at the EFO CCAA in Yaoundé, under the chairmanship of Mrs Paule Assoumou Koki, CCAA's Director General.

This initiative is part of a capacity-building drive to ensure that teams are optimally prepared for the certification audits scheduled for November and December 2025.

Immersive and interactive training

For five days, participants benefited from an active teaching approach, combining presentations, discussions, practical exercises and case studies. Structured around five key modules, the training course helped to reinforce participants' understanding of:

  • Vision, values and management policy,
  • Architecture and challenges of the Integrated Management System (IMS),
  • Risk and opportunity management,
  • Organisation of process reviews based on SMART objectives,
  • Information reporting procedures, with a focus on the new digital tool.

The course was assessed with a concise multiple-choice test to ensure that the concepts and methods taught were effectively assimilated.

 A strategic and rigorous approach

At the closing ceremony of this first session, the Director General reminded participants that aviation never stands still, and that the key to effective management lies in rigorous organisation and a risk-based approach. She stressed that this approach should not be followed to satisfy ISO systems, but rather to help identify and select priority activities, thus ensuring a better grasp of objectives.

‘Each procedure we write must be as simplified as possible, while remaining effective from an operational and business point of view,’ said the CCAA's Director General.

She also congratulated the Quality team, praising the work accomplished in implementing the project to digitise processes, and recalled that the total involvement of staff and the rigorous application of procedures and good practices are essential to the success of future audits.

Towards ISO certification renewal

This training course is a key stage in the timetable for preparing for the renewal of certifications. It is preceded by internal audits and will be followed by process reviews, blank audits, corrective actions and management reviews, ensuring strict compliance with ISO requirements.

The active participation of the General Management and the 35 Head Office and EFO staff in this first session in Yaoundé demonstrates the CCAA's deep commitment to safe, modern and competitive civil aviation.

The next phases will take place from 12 to 23 May at the Douala International Airport Training Centre, involving teams from the Bafoussame-Bamougoum, Maroua-Salak and Ngaoundéré airport commands.

Since April 2021, the CCAA has held two ISO 9001:2015 certifications, attesting to its expertise in the supervision of civil aviation safety and the management of air navigation services at Bafoussam-Bamougoum airport. Their renewal in June 2023 confirmed this excellence, and current efforts are aimed at ensuring further success as part of the extension of the ISO 9001v2015 certification domain to the Yaoundé EFO and the Ngaoundéré and Maroua-Salak airports.

With its collective commitment and proactive approach, the CCAA is reaffirming its position as a benchmark aviation authority, serving the sustainable development of Cameroon.
