The Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority and the CCAA strengthen technical cooperation ties
From September 29 to October 2, 2026, a delegation from the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA), led by its president, Captain Sameh Mohamed Fawzy, stayed in Yaoundé as part of a visit to strengthen cooperation with the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA). After four days of technical discussions, meetings, and field visits, the two authorities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to consolidate their collaboration and strengthen air transport safety, skills, and connectivity between Cameroon and Egypt.

At the end of these exchanges, the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) and the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) formalized their partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The document was initialed by the Director General of the CCAA, Mrs. Paule Avomo Assoumou Koki, and the President of the ECAA, Captain Sameh Mohamed Fawzy.
During the signing ceremony, the Director General of the CCAA stressed the importance of cooperation among civil aviation authorities to tackle the industry's growing challenges. “Faced with the multiple and equally complex challenges of our time, isolation is no longer an option: success relies on pooling forces, experiences, and resources. Through this agreement protocol, we concretely commit to fostering the sharing of knowledge and best practices," she declared.
Speaking on behalf of the Egyptian delegation, Captain Sameh Mohamed Fawzy praised the quality of the welcome extended to his team and the continuity of the exchanges initiated during the CCAA Director General's visit to Cairo last July 2026.
He also emphasized the concrete commitments of both parties. "Our technical teams held several highly productive meetings covering aviation safety, airworthiness, crisis management, training, and capacity building. We have agreed to provide support through technical experts and training opportunities in Egypt for Cameroonian specialists," he explained.
Beyond technical cooperation, the visit also paved the way for discussions on strengthening air connectivity between the two countries. The President of the ECAA notably mentioned the possibility of establishing a direct air link between Yaoundé and Cairo, as well as exploring new opportunities to modernize Cameroon's airport infrastructure.

The Memorandum of Understanding establishes several priority areas intended to structure the cooperation between the two authorities, including:
- Air navigation, airports, and airworthiness;
- Safety oversight, operator surveillance, and crisis management, notably through SMS/SSP frameworks;
- Training, capacity building, and quality assurance;
- Preparation for International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) audits, particularly within the framework of the USOAP and USAP programs, as well as the monitoring of corrective action plans;
- Sustainable development and economic regulation of the aviation sector.
With the signing of this agreement, both authorities now have a formal framework to pursue and deepen their collaboration. The next step depends on the technical teams of both countries, tasked with translating these pledges into concrete actions, in accordance with the agreed provisions.
During its stay, the Egyptian delegation also visited the Nsimalen Training School, the Search and Rescue Sub-Centre (RSC), and the CCAA headquarters. These various stages allowed experts from both authorities to exchange views on several issues related to regulation, safety, and the development of the aviation sector.
