The ICAO Regional Director for West and Central Africa, Mr. JALLOW MAM SAIT inaugurated the center November 13, 2018 in the presence of Civil Aviation stakeholders and partners.

This ceremony follows his recent endorsement as an ICAO Civil Aviation Security Training Center (AVSEC Training Center) .According to the ICAO Regional Director this implies "the Center has met the general and specific requirements and is capable of providing aviation security training for personnel and officials responsible for the implementation of security measures in Civil Aviation in accordance with ICAO Annex 17 ".

This Center will therefore support Cameroon's efforts to comply with standards, but also the countries of the sub-region. Indeed, CCAA staff and other learners trained in this Center will have access to training certified by ICAO.

The certificate symbolically given to the Director General on November 13, 2018 confers powers to the Douala Security Training Center to now deliver a wide range of continuing and long-term training for Cameroon, West and Central African region. These courses cover initial training in security, imagery, crisis management, freight and air post, training of inspectors, internal auditors, risk management, etc.

It should be noted that since 2016 the Training Center provides training to CCAA staff, to those of partner administrations such as: customs, gendarmerie and police involved in the implementation of facilitation and security measures, and the personnel responsible for the technical operation of aircraft supervised by the CCAA.

The Douala Training Center is one of three centers at the CCAA Training School (Yaounde and Garoua).

It has infrastructure, facilities, human resources and operational procedures that meet international standards. 15 in-house instructors who have received Trainer Plus training deliver courses and the Center has established partnerships with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Joint Aviation Authorities Training Organization (JAA TO) for the organization of training sessions in Cameroon.

This Center thus puts Cameroon in the network of 34 ICAO security centers in the world, and makes it the 6th in Africa after, Casablanca, Tunis, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Dakar being the first in Central Africa.

In the long term, the CCAA would like to extend the capacity of its Training School to provide long-term courses in modules such as engineering, mechanics and courses in the training program of the two centers already in operation (Yaoundé and Douala).

The Regional Director of ICAO congratulated the Director General of CCAA and her staff for this successful outcome, which is a plus for Cameroon in terms of compliance with international standards.

He also invited the staff of the Center to maintain the level achieved.

Cameroon had already received a recognition from ICAO in 2016, during its Assembly at the time, the country was awarded a certificate.
