The event was opened July 15, 2024 by the Vice-President of the Republic of Gabon, Mr Joseph OWONDAULT BERRE, in the presence of the President of the ICAO Council, Mr Salvatore SCIACCHITANO, the Secretary-General of the ICAO, Mr Juan Carlos SALAZAR, civil aviation directors general including Mrs Paule AVOMO ASSOUMOU KOKI from Cameroon, executives from the aviation industry, and numerous stakeholders in the African and Indian Ocean aviation sector.
This forum for regulators, operators, and partners aims to address common challenges in safety, security, and the facilitation of aviation, in the field of airport infrastructure and air navigation, for the economic development of air transport and environmental protection in Africa and the Indian Ocean.
Following an opening ceremony featuring local cultural performances, the 10th meeting of the Directors General of Civil Aviation of the AFI region took place, reviewing recent developments in aviation, assessing the region's performance against ICAO's strategic objectives, and discussing priorities and capacity-building issues.
Alongside the main events of the AFI Aviation Week, the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) established a well-designed and informative stand, adorned with captivating visuals and vibrant colours. The CCAA's dedicated team will actively promote the training programs offered by its training school, EFO/CCAA, until July 20th, 2024.
Through interactive discussions, informative brochures, and engaging video presentations, the CCAA showcased the content of its Certified Aircraft Maintenance and Recycling (CAMRA) training program. A program designed for engineers with a background in mechanical, industrial, electrical, telecommunications, electrotechnical, or electromechanical engineering, as well as professionals holding an aircraft maintenance license (cat B1, B2) with at least 10 years of experience.
The CAMRA module attracted significant interest from experts and visitors alike, drawing notable figures to the EFO stand, including the Vice President of the Republic of Gabon, the President of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the Directors General of Civil Aviation of Gabon and Congo, and the Director General of ASSA-AC.

The meeting of the Directors General continues on July 16, followed by the 27th and 13th meetings of the steering committees for the AFI plan on Security and Safety and Facilitation for Africa, and the AFI Region Aviation Symposium on 17 and 18 July respectively.
The AFI AVIATION WEEK 2024 will end on July 19 2024 with the meeting of the Africa and Indian Ocean Regional Planning and Implementation Group (APIRG) and the Africa and Indian Ocean Aviation Security Regional Group (RASG-AFI).
