The Minister of Transport commends airport achievements of the TSDP-Aviation Component in Douala

The Minister undertook a visit to the construction sites of the Transport Sector Development Project (TSDP)—specifically its aviation component—executed at Douala International Airport on September 15, 2025. He was accompanied by the Chairman of the CCAA Board of Directors, Dr. NGOLLE III Patrice Emanuel, the World Bank Representative, Jean Philippe Garçon, administrative and municipal authorities, and Mrs. Paule ASOUMOU KOKI, Director General of the CCAA. This visit was conducted in the margins of the two Steering Committee (COPIL) sessions during which the project's implementation status as of September 12, 2025, and the activities report as of June 30, 2025, were approved.

The Transport Sector Development Project (TSDP) is a joint initiative of
Cameroon and the World Bank. It was established by the State of Cameroon to enhance transport infrastructure, following the signing of a financing agreement amounting to €172.4 million with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) on April 20, 2017.
This project was structured with two components (road and aviation). The aviation component aims to strengthen security and safety at the international airports of Yaoundé, Douala, Garoua, and Maroua. This is intended to align Cameroon’s airport infrastructure with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards concerning security.
Evaluation of the progress of the preliminary works by the CCAA Steering Committee (COPIL)
The anticipated tangible results stem from a portion of the project funding—specifically €46,363,447 (approximately 30,412,427,260 FCFA)—that was reallocated to the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) to finance the identified activities. The project is scheduled for closure on December 31, 2025. The overall execution rate for all activities stands at approximately 95% as of September 2025. This solid partnership was lauded and commended by the Minister of Transport.
Beyond Douala International Airport, several other works have been completed at Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport, including 15 kilometres of bypass road to prevent runway incursions by residents, the tarmacking of 13 km of patrol road, and ongoing activities involving the construction of a 10.5 km security fence, the extension of the video surveillance system with the installation of over 100 new cameras, the expansion of the video surveillance screen wall, solar lighting on the patrol road, the implementation of an anti-intrusion detection system, and the completion of the bypass road bridge at the airport.
Also noteworthy is the construction of Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs) in Yaoundé and Douala, with those in Garoua and Maroua awaiting official handover. Furthermore, social infrastructure has been constructed for the benefit of the communities living around the airports of Yaoundé-Nsimalen, Douala, Garoua, and Maroua.
These initiatives amply demonstrate the Government’s resolve to make Cameroonian civil aviation a competitive sector, a vector for integration and enduring economic competitiveness, as highlighted by the Director General of the CCAA.
