Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA): First Quarterly Security Review Workshop of 2026

The Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) held its first quarterly security review workshop of the year from March 12 to 14, 2026, at the Nsimalen Training School. The objective of this workshop was to evaluate aviation safety performance in Cameroon and to identify priority and emerging threats as part of a proactive approach aimed at anticipating risks before they escalate into accidents.
Approximately thirty participants attended the workshop, including representatives from the Ministry of Transport, airlines, air navigation service providers, airport managers, and defense forces. The diversity of attendees sufficiently illustrates the fundamental principle that aviation safety is everyone's business, not just that of pilots or air traffic controllers.
Over the course of three days, participants analyzed 2025 safety data and compared it with previous years to identify trends, resulting in the identification of several priority risks, notably:
-Wildlife Hazard (Bird Strikes): Related to collisions between birds and aircraft, this constitutes the most pressing threat, particularly during takeoffs and landings;
-Pavement Condition and Apron Management: These represent a significant risk to flight safety at certain airports in cases of degradation or poor movement management.
-Runway Incursions: Situations where a person, vehicle, or aircraft enters an active runway without authorization, representing a major danger at certain airports.
-Controller-Pilot Communications: Difficulties in bilateral communication between control towers and crews pose a significant safety concern and can lead to hazardous situations.
-GNSS Signal Disruptions: Interference or failures in satellite navigation systems, which many flight procedures depend on, particularly during landing approaches.
These workshops provide CCAA inspectors with better visibility into the national aeronautical system, thereby promoting risk-based oversight.
An approach that translates into increased safety and confidence for passengers and travelers within Cameroonian air transport. For airlines, it guarantees a clear, predictable, and stable regulatory framework where rules are based on real data rather than assumptions.
