Bamenda Airport: Two Camair-Co Test Flights on the Runway
Published: Thursday, 30 April 2026 12:44
Two aircraft of the national airline Camair-Co landed on the tarmac of Bamenda Airport on Sunday, March 29, 2026. These were test flights, carried out respectively by a Boeing 737 and a Q-400, for the final validation of air navigation procedures recently approved by ASECNA. This demonstration once again reassured the reliability of the equipment used and the security system implemented on site in preparation for the imminent arrival of Pope Leon XIV.

With these two test flights, Bamenda Airport has reached an important milestone in its operational modernization process. Indeed, following the successful passage of ASECNA’s technical aircraft a few days earlier, the coordinated landing of two distinct aircraft types—the Boeing 737 and the Q-400 of Camair-Co—positively confirmed the viability of the infrastructures put in place.
Speaking enthusiastically upon his arrival on the ground, the Governor of the North-West Region, Mr. Adolphe Lele Lafrique, who witnessed the event, emphasized that “this deployment was a convincing dress rehearsal to ensure maximum security during the visit of the Sovereign Pontiff, scheduled for April 16.” The regional authority particularly praised the expertise and unwavering commitment of the Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA), the ADC, and the national airline Camair-Co, whose rigorous work on navigation systems and safety measures enabled this rapid compliance.
While CCAA teams are busy with the final adjustments of air navigation equipment, aeronautical communication systems, land security, and safety installations, this technical achievement instills a sense of pride and general serenity, especially among the populations of the North-West, now ready to welcome this historic event under navigation conditions that meet international standards.
