On June 22, 2017, the secondary RADAR of Douala International Airport was officially put into service by ASECNA.

To this end, a mission of CCAA’s air navigation safety inspectors visited this center on June 19th and 20th 2017 to oversee this change, which will significantly impact air traffic control procedures used at the ATS center Of Douala. This radar has a lateral coverage of a radius of approximately 200NM and provides a real-time visualisation of aircraft operating in the airspace managed by the Regional Control Center and equipped with activated RADAR transponders. This will improve the capacities of aircraft conflict detection controls.

This change is expected to result in a significant reduction in the number of virtual collisions (Airprox) over the next few years. 

The introduction of this RADAR is part of the process of continuous improvement of the air transport security undertaken by the State of Cameroon in its airspace. In addition, this upgrade of the Cameroon airspace will foster a qualitative and quantitative improvement in the provision of air services to air users. 

As a reminder, Cameroonian airspace records an average of 150 flights a day.
