The Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) started this educational session for the residents of the Yaoundé-Nsimalen international airport to let them know stakes involved in the preservation of the airport area and the risks incurred in case of illegal occupation.

On February 14, 2019, the Minister of Transport presided over the launching ceremony of this awareness campaign in the presence of local populations and authorities. "It was a question of explaining to the neighbouring populations the concept of land reserve since many consider land around already constructed airports to be free land which can still be acquired for private purposes. An airport is built in long term, "the CCAA Director General said, she explained the importance of being aware of airport land reserves.

Through presentations, residents were edified on: the current regulations, the limits of the airport sector, airport planning issues, aeronautical easement plans, proposed development plans, exhibition areas at the airport noises and the stakes of the protection of the airport platform from illegal occupations.

It should be noted that the 2015 ICAO audit confirmed Yaoundé-Nsimalen airport high risk status due to illegal construction around it, maize and cassava field crops, vandalism perpetrated on the security fence of Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport creating shortcuts which cut across runway leading to serious risks for the life and health of the population as well as aircraft. The campaign launched by the CCAA aims to remedy these problems. The Minister of Transport Jean Ernest Massena NGALLE BIBEHE encouraged the initiative and invited residents to respect the measures put in place to solve these problems. This campaign took place at the Catholic mission of Nsimalen.
