3rd Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels in Dubai
Published: Wednesday, 22 November 2023 19:00
This conference, which began on November 20, 2023, in the economic capital of the United Arab Emirates, aims to discuss methods of accelerating the production and deployment of cleaner energy sources for aviation. A strong delegation from the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA), comprising its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr NGOLLE III Patrice, its Director General, Mrs Paule ASSOUMOU KOKI, and experts on the issue, is taking part.

Organised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), this event, which brings together more than 1,000 aviation experts from over a hundred countries and international organisations, is being held following the agreement reached by the member states of this world organisation in 2022 on the importance of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) by 2050 to decarbonise the sector.
Therefore, the aviation community has come together to mark their commitment to boosting the global transition to alternative fuels, including those with lower carbon emissions (LCAF) and other clean energy sources for aviation.
The President of the ICAO Council, Salvator SCIACCHITANO, took the opportunity of the opening ceremony to remind the participants of the great potential they represent and the immense role that their various States must play to make this transition to other energies in aviation. He also invited the participants to pool their efforts alongside the actions already undertaken by ICAO with the different States and stakeholders for the development and deployment of clean aviation energies, to take concrete measures and to make a real commitment to achieving ICAO's priorities and vision of zero emissions by 2050. In short, he urged States to work in a spirit of sustainable development by considering present needs without compromising future needs.
Later, a high-level panel was moderated by the Secretary General of CAFAC outlining the respective visions of their States on reducing the carbon effect in aviation by 2050.

This work of the 3rd ICAO Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3) is holding, now following the works of Mexico in October 2017. This assembly of experts will also have to define a legal framework under the aegis of the ICAO and in alignment with the "No Country Left Behind" initiative while taking into account the national capacities of each country.
Works of the first day ended with declarations from a number of States emphasizing that the success of this transition would depend on cooperation, communication, capacity building, financing and the transfer of technology to less developed countries.
This meeting, which ends on November 24, 2023, is therefore an opportunity to present the determination of ICAO and its Member States on the future changes in the aviation sector.
