CCAA: Celebrating International Civil Aviation Day 2023
Cameroon, in its own unique way, joined the international community in celebrating International Civil Aviation Day (ICAD). To mark the occasion, an Open Day was hosted by the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) and Bel Aviation, the promoter of AVIA Day, in the city of Douala on December 6, 2023, alongside several other attractions.
In keeping with the theme of this year’s event, "Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development," a highly interactive stand was set up in Douala. This stand welcomed secondary school pupils, university students, and many curious onlookers from the city. It provided an opportunity to discover the world of civil aviation, the training courses offered by the CCAA Training School (EFO), and the many initiatives implemented to promote safety and security in Cameroon's civil aviation sector.
Through engaging presentations, pupils and students gained valuable insights into the various stages of the flight operations process, as well as certain aviation professions and activities. This interactive experience was further enriched by the opportunity for visitors to meet other players in Cameroon's civil aviation system, including representatives from government departments, FMO (Police, Gendarmerie, Customs), and other partners such as ADC, ASECNA, and airlines.
This well-attended Open Day was a resounding success, enabling young Cameroonians to delve into the world of civil aviation and gain deeper knowledge about the training and employment opportunities available in this sector.
In conjunction with this event, a workshop took place on December 7, 2023, at the Douala International Airport. This workshop brought together experts from the aviation sector to engage in a meaningful discussion about the future of civil aviation in Cameroon. The primary focus was on identifying strategies to foster creativity and encourage innovative ideas that will effectively improve the safety and comfort of air travel within the country.
Furthermore, the CCAA and one of its partners offered a unique opportunity to about twenty staff members. This involved a first flight in a helicopter around Air Base 101 in Yaoundé, serving as a pre-event highlight for the ICAD celebration.
