The country was elected Vice-Chair of the Bureau for Central Africa on the second day of the 35th Ordinary Plenary Session of the week of the African Civil Aviation Commission (CAFAC) being held in Brazzaville in the Republic of Congo from September 25 to 29, 2024, in the presence of the Secretary-General of ICAO, numerous officials and leaders of civil aviation authorities and other international and bilateral partners of CAFAC.

After the welcome address by Dr Anatole Collinet Makosso, Prime Minister of the Republic of Congo, the customary courtesies of the ICAO Secretary General, the goodwill message from the African Union Commission (AUC), and the welcome address by the Congolese Minister of Transport, the discussions got underway.

On the table for discussion were several pertinent issues relating to civil aviation in Africa, the state of progress of the various activities carried out by CAFAC, the challenges encountered in each area, the election of the new CAFAC Bureau and the definition of the strategy of African States for the 42nd Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to be held in 2025 in Montreal, Canada.

It is in this context that Mr. Serge DZOTA, the Director General of National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) Congo, was elected to head CAFAC, and Cameroon, represented by Mrs. Paule ASSOUMOU Koki, Director of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, was elected Vice-Chairman of the Board for Central Africa, replacing the Central African Republic (CAR) per the institution's rotation system. Through this election, Cameroon becomes a member of the CAFAC board whose missions include the approval of the CAFAC work program and monitoring of implemenation, the supervision of the administrative anf financial management of the Secretariat, and the conevning ordinary and extraordinary plenary sessions.
It should be recalled that November 28, 2024, is reserved for the high-level ministerial meeting and the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Yamoussoukro Decision under the slogan ‘The road to achieving the objectives of Agenda 2063 of the African Union’.

Cameroon thus continues to play its part alongside the other senior officials of African civil aviation to raise our country further to the summit of civil aviation.

As a reminder, CAFAC is the African Union's specialized agency for all civil aviation issues on the African continent and the implementing agency for the Yamoussoukro Decision and the Single African Air Transport Market. CAFAC's objective is to coordinate civil aviation issues in Africa and cooperate with ICAO and all other organizations and bodies involved in promoting and developing civil aviation.
