CCAA: first training course in City Side Security

This course was successfully delivered from November 17 to 21, 2025, at the Training Center of the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority (CCAA) Training School (EFO) in Douala. This exercise once again reinforces Cameroon's proactive approach to strengthening national and regional capabilities in securing public airport areas.

The major challenge in city-side security lies in striking a balance between smooth access to the airport for various users and maximum security on the airport apron. This is why the CCAA has decided to equip its security partners with the skills required to meet this ongoing challenge.
The training session brought together fifteen (15) trainees from various organizations involved in the implementation of security measures, including the DGSN, the Gendarmerie, the Armed Forces, the DGRE, the DST, ADC, Airport Security, and AVSEC personnel from Douala International Airport.
Two CCAA-certified instructors led the training, covering five theoretical and practical modules. These were Local Risk Assessment, Infrastructure Adaptation and Security Measures, City-Side Security Culture Awareness, Coordinated Implementation of Security Measures, and City-Side Security Crisis Management.
The instructors adopted a blended and highly interactive teaching approach, combining lectures, case studies, group discussions, demonstrations, and field visits.
At the end of the training, participants confirmed that they had mastered essential tasks, including identifying the boundaries and vulnerabilities of the airport on the city side, assessing and mitigating risks, coordinating security measures, and responding effectively to emergencies.
According to EFO authorities, this course has two objectives: to optimize the inherent quality of local security training on the city side by incorporating feedback from this first session, and to ensure compliance with ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) at Cameroonian airports in line with the new ICAO guidelines.
It is worth noting that these modules were developed and designed at the CCAA Training School. This is yet another low-cost local training opportunity offered by this flagship training institution in the Central African sub-region.
