Cameroonian airspace has reached a significant strategic milestone following the signing of Decree No. 2026/033 on January 29, 2026, by H.E. President Paul BIYA. This decree ratifies the Air Transport Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Cameroon and the Government of the State of Qatar, succeeding the initial text initialed in Doha on January 16, 2025, under the aegis of the Minister of Transport.

This ratification consolidates the legal framework governing exchanges between the two nations, with the primary ambition of revitalizing bilateral cooperation within the civil aviation sector. Beyond strengthening diplomatic ties, the agreement aims to stimulate trade and tourism by providing a secure and structured framework for the operation of air services. Specifically, it defines essential parameters regarding traffic rights, aviation safety standards, and the simplification of customs procedures, thereby ensuring optimal operations for designated airlines.
The conclusion of this regulatory process paves the way for tangible operational prospects, highlighted by the upcoming announcement of direct flights between the Doha and Douala hubs. Furthermore, this new aerial bridge will enhance Cameroon’s international connectivity, representing a major growth opportunity for both the national carrier, Camair-Co, and Qatar Airways.
By streamlining exchanges between Central Africa and the Middle East, this agreement further positions Cameroon as a rapidly expanding aeronautical crossroads.
